the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about an amazing and pretty famous chocolatier that opens up the grandest chocolate factory ever. shortly after the factory opened Willy Wonka( Johnny Depp) finds out that some of the people working for him are spy’s stealing his recepies, then making and selling the off as their own because they were jealous of Willy Wonka’s success, forcing Willy Wonka to fire everyone and shut down the factory “forever”. Many years go by and Willy Wonka starts up his factory again while putting five golden tickets into five ordinary Wonka bars, allowing five children into the factory with the special prize at the end that one of the will win.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a very entertaining movie because of the way it was presented in a certain style that the director(Tim Burton) is used to. That gives the movie sort of mysterious, weird and creepy but funny sort of style to it. There were very few settings in the film, such as that it was mostly in Charlie’s ( Freddie Highmore) house and the Chocolate Factory and all the rooms inside of the factory and the other setting that made an appearance once in the film was Wilbur Wonka’s( Christopher Lee) house (Willy Wonka’s father).

The movie as weird as it is, is quite entertaining to watch. some of the most funny moments and quotes in the movie for me are:

  • “Everything in this room is eatable, even I’m eatable! but that is called cannibalism my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies”– Willy Wonka(Johnny Depp)
  • The few times that Willy Wonka walked into the glass elevator
  • “Good morning starshine, the Earth says hello” — Willy Wonka(Johnny Depp)

They way that Tim Burton has designed the characters to be, to me they kind of remind me of the 7 deadly sins

  • Augustus Gloop: is greed and sloth
  • Violet Beaureguard: is pride
  • Veruca Salt: is greed and envy
  • Mike Teavee: is anger and pride

They remind me of the sins because they are so close to the meaning of these sins. Mainly because they all managed to get themselves in trouble by doing something incredibly stupid.

My favourite thing about the movie would be the colour scheme used. On the outside of the factory it looks dull and lifeless apart from the costumes that the characters were wearing, although not all of the costumes were bright colours some of them were still quite dull and gloomy. When you enter the factory it is very bright and there is a sense of being welcome there, when you enter into the rooms they are all very spacious and giving off a happy vibe until one of those five kids do something stupid. Another thing I also enjoyed about the movie was that all the actors could manage to take the script and look at the lines of the character that they are playing and create that characters entire personality, how they act around other people in the film and how they pronounce their words( whether they have an accent or a stutter, etc) and the projection of their voices on set, that part of a movie is my favourite because you know how much time these actors spent learning lines and getting the scenes right to make a funny and amazing movie for everyone of any age to enjoy.

My most loved scene in the movie would have to be the look of excitement on Willy Wonka’s(Johnny Depp) face when he finds out that Charlie(Freddie Highmore) is the only child left and that he wins the entire chocolate factory. I love this scene because just before Willy realises that Charlie is the only one left he takes a moment to look back for the other spoilt children that went before Charlie, then he looks at Charlie and his grandfather and his face lights up as he grabs Charlie’s hand to shake and congratulate him for being the least rotten of all the five children and that he has one a great prize. This scene is quite a funny one because the amount of enthusiasm, joy that is put into it to make as funny as it was.

Overall I believe this to be an incredibly funny and sort of mysterious movie in some ways. This movie is perfect for the en tire family because it is filled with comedy and at certain points some sadness. So I give this movie 4 1/2 stars out of 5 because i believe that there were some downfalls e.g. Augustus Gloop(Philip Wiegratz), Augustus’s mother, Violets mother, Veruca Salt(Julia Winter) and Willy Wonka(Johnny Deep) looked a little bit too perfect in the face e.g. their skin looked a little bit to smooth and too much make up put on. Apart from that the movie was an enjoyable one 🙂
